The first "Girls in ICT Day” taking place in Aswan to promote employment of young women in ICT

The first "Girls in ICT Day” taking place in Aswan to promote employment of young women in ICT.

The Egyptian labor market reveals strong gender inequalities. Especially in Upper Egypt women are disproportionally hit by unemployment and their labour force participation is extremely low (23%). The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector is a promising field for self- and wage employment. The ICT sector enables women to participate in the labor market and overcome social challenges through offering flexible working modalities such as working from home.

In order to enhance women's labour market participation and broaden their employment spectrum, German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in cooperation with International Telecommunication Union (ITU), International Development Research Centre (IDRC) , Aga Khan & Continuous Education Center (CEC) organized the "Girls in ICT Day" in Aswan. The event is linked to the ITU's international "Girls in ICT Day" event.
